Casa Flores: Helping Pregnant Mothers Heal from Addiction

Working with expectant mothers battling substance use disorders, Vidya Nair, Clinical Director of Casa Flores and founder of Palm Beach Therapy, is leading a compassionate new approach to addiction recovery in Palm Beach County.

As featured in the Palm Beach Post, Casa Flores is a program created by the Hanley Foundation to support pregnant women—regardless of income—who are working to overcome addiction and protect the health of their babies. The program provides housing, therapy, and wrap-around emotional support during one of the most vulnerable times in a woman’s life.

Nair emphasizes that addiction affects women from every background:

“I see the same level of trauma, stigma, and shame in the women from the island, Palm Beach, as women who live on the street,” she says.

The Casa Flores residence, located next to St. Mary’s Medical Center, offers a warm and restorative environment where mothers can focus on recovery and connection. Each suite includes a comfortable bed, crib, and soft furnishings designed to provide calm and stability. “They deserve it,” Nair says. “If they are coming here for four months, they deserve to take the time to feel and heal.”

Beyond therapy and counseling, Casa Flores includes doulas who guide expectant mothers through medical care, birth preparation, and early parenting. The women also learn practical life skills such as budgeting, cooking, and self-care—tools that help them regain independence and confidence as new mothers.

The pilot program currently supports five residents, with hopes of expanding as awareness and funding grow.

“We’re starting small,” Nair says, “but with community support, we can help more women and babies heal together.”

Casa Flores represents the heart of trauma-informed therapy—meeting clients where they are, removing shame, and rebuilding their lives with empathy, safety, and care.
